Link Friday: The 2016 Easter Edition

Posted on Thursday, March 24, 2016 by Kate

Let’s be honest, Easter is kind of all over the place when it comes to its symbols. Let’s take a break from marketing this week to explore what’s going on with all these Easter traditions.

  • Ever wonder what the heck chocolate eggs have to do with Easter? It’s a long story but my sweet tooth is glad it played out the way it did.
  • Secular Easter revolves around a rabbit delivering eggs and candy to humans. Say what? Well, this one started in the 1600s and sounds an awful lot like the premise of Santa Claus, if you ask me.
  • Did you know dyeing Easter eggs goes back 60,000 years? It’s a tradition that’s been carried out since Neanderthal times!
  • If you love Peeps (we can’t be friends), this article will give you plenty of interesting conversation starters for Easter dinner. That way you can avoid talking about politics. Plus it’ll get you in the mood to try some of these weird Peeps flavors (like fruit punch, cake or sour watermelon! Amazing, I didn’t know they could get grosser than they already are!)
  • According to the National Confectioners Association, enough jelly beans are made for Easter in the U.S. to fill a giant egg measuring 89 feet high by 60 feet wide. Ancestors of the jelly bean showed up in biblical times, but they only became associated with Easter in the 1930s, thanks to their egg-like shape.

The more you know.

Easter’s almost here. This means we can really call it spring now, right?

  • A still tenuous economy has many predicting a drop in the spending associated with Easter this year.
  • Forget the dye and vinegar. Color Easter eggs like a boss.
  • The eggs you hunt in your backyard aren’t the only kind worth looking for! Uncovering the virtual kind buried in websites can be just as rewarding. Check out these cool ones on YouTube.
  • Candy is a big deal at Easter. These recipes include your favorite sweet treats, but for a 21 and over crowd.
