What is the best thing about your job at Pilch & Barnet?

The best thing is getting to work with creative people all day. Some of the people who work here are weirder than I am. It’s seldom boring.

If you could train your pet(s) to do any one trick, what would it be?

I wish I could train my little coonhound Dylan to work through his stage fright. He loves to sing along when I play him songs on the accordion. But, unfortunately, whenever I gather a large crowd to hear him sing, he gets shy and falls silent, refusing to howl. He just looks sheepishly at the floor and sulks. Maybe he’s not as confident in his vocal talents as he should be. Every day, I assure them that he is a natural tenor with excellent pitch control and an uncanny way of improving on a well-known melody. But, alas, he is like so many of us—he can’t overcome his own self doubt and his singing talents remain hidden from the wider world.

What book, movie, song, music album or video game do you recommend everyone in the world needs to experience?

Everyone needs to hear Fanfare Ciocarlia, a brass band from Romania. Beware, it might make you want to dance, sing or fight—or do all three at once.

What is your favorite website to visit when you have a minute to spare?

Duckworksmagazine.com is the place that landlocked boatbuilders go to dream about the sloop they will probably never build for their circumnavigation of the world. It’s full of trip reports, product reviews, boat designs and ramblings by men in the midst of nautically-themed midlife crises. If one day you wake up wanting to build a carvel-planked, ocean-going, yawl-rigged sailboat in your backyard, go to duckworksmagazine.com and you’ll find out you’re not alone. You’re a still a freak, but you’re not totally alone.

Mac or PC?

PC. Because I once spent about 45 minutes in one of those creepy Mac stores at the shopping mall trying to buy an iPod accessory for someone for a Christmas gift and that was all it took for me to never want to have anything to do with the Apple-flavored side of life ever, ever again. I refuse to drink that Kool-aid. But I respect everyone’s personal opinion, of course, and would never say anything inflammatory to any of you Mac-drones out there. You’re probably nice people and pay your taxes or whatever. I’m sure you’re all actually fine human beings. Just stay away from me. I mean it. Really. And get a life. Nerd.
